Gifted writer / performer, Jamie Drake, regularly plays up and down the Central Coast. In 2018, we brought her to the Youth Stage at Lompoc’s Flower Festival. In 2019, she’ll be a featured artist for SipMusic Club.
After a decade behind-the-scenes in Los Angeles, co-writing and collaborating with the likes of Jim James, Peter Yarrow and Moby (in addition to lending her vocal talents to various industry projects, including the theme song to the CW’s Life Sentence), JAMIE DRAKE has all the while been carefully honing her craft and preparing to take center stage.
What has culminated is EVERYTHING’S FINE: a breathtaking embrace of heartbreak and hope, wrapped in lush orchestrations reminiscent of Jon Brion and Van Dyke Parks and delivered with rich vocals, derivative of her varied musical influences ranging from Harry Nillson to Sufjan Stevens; from Cat Power to Joni Mitchell.
Drake’s first major solo album in over five years is set to be released in 2019.
We’d love to bring her back to Lompoc to share one of her unique children’s music classes.
“For the “mommy and me” classes, I share some kids songs I’ve written, and help them discover the music that’s already there in them. These children have been a bit younger – sometimes people bring toddlers to these classes and there’s a play element to them. In the class I teach as an after school program, I listen to what the kids are talking about, ask if anyone has any ideas, teach about rhyme and how to use it when writing lyrics. Teach them different terms when writing a song. We’ll do games with words, I teach them how to train their ear for copying a melody or a string I am plucking. ”
